Why I Require a Retainer Fee | Business

Uncategorized

If you’ve booked a session with me recently you probably remember that I’ve required you to pay a Retainer Fee in order to book your session or wedding date.  You paid the Retainer Fee, signed your contract, and moved on without thinking about it, but I want explain a little about the Retainer Fee and how I use it to protect my myself and business.

Photography is my livelihood.  I don’t hold another job to bring in extra income for my family.  Therefore, if I reserve dates and times without having clients pay retainer fee and they back out last minute, my business and my family suffers.  The date or time I reserved for a client is now a bust and I will have no business that day.  Bummer!

This is where the retainer fee comes in.  Requiring a 50% non-refundable retainer fee gives me at least half the income if people happen to back out or weddings get cancelled. My business and my family is protected.  Hooray!!

There are certain circumstances where I will refund or transfer the retainer fee, but this is totally up to my own personal discretion.  For example, if a wedding date has to be moved due to unforeseen circumstances, I will gladly transfer the retainer fee to a new wedding date if I am available. πŸ™‚

I love my clients and I’m so thankful they support my business and my family!! This is the best job in the world and even though talking yucky business things isn’t any fun it has to be done!  Happy Monday y’all! πŸ™‚
